Villa Zeytin · North Cyprus Guide

Beaches Near Karşıyaka

One of the pleasures of staying at Villa Zeytin is that the sea need not take over the whole day. Vasilia/Güzelyalı, Sardunya Bay and the small coves below Karşıyaka are about eight minutes away by car. Farther along the road are rocky swimming terraces in Lapta, sheltered sandy bays around Alsancak and the larger beach clubs near Five Mile.

Not all beaches are the same place. Some have sand, easy access and rows of loungers; others are rocky coves where you go for a swim and little else. There are places for lunch at the water’s edge, a coastal walkway for the evening and, beyond Karşıyaka towards Kayalar and Sadrazamköy, a quieter road where the scenery is as important as the stop.

Beaches closest to Villa Zeytin

The coast immediately below Karşıyaka is broken rather than continuous. Village roads lead down to Vasilia/Güzelyalı, Horseshoe Beach, and a scattering of smaller rocky coves. Sardunya Bay lies just over the boundary between Karşıyaka and Lapta. All are close enough for a morning swim or a couple of hours beside the water, followed by lunch and an afternoon back at the villa.

Driving times are from Villa Zeytin and are approximate. Venue information was checked online in July 2026, but beach businesses along this coast can still change their opening days, charges and seasonal facilities.

Around 8 minutes by car

Vasilia Beach / Güzelyalı

You will hear this beach called both Vasilia and Güzelyalı. It is one of the broader stretches of shoreline near the village, with sand and pebbles, straightforward parking and places to eat beside the water. Sunbeds, umbrellas and showers, and a turtle-conservation project.

For many guests, this is the obvious first choice at the local coast: near the villa, uncomplicated and large enough for a proper beach morning without spending half the day getting there.

Around 8 minutes by car

Small Karşıyaka coves

Along the coast are rocky edges, small inlets and local swimming spots that barely announce themselves from the road. Do not expect a miniature beach club: the attraction is clear water, fewer people and the freedom to stop for a swim without arranging the day around it.

Access, parking and the way into the water differ from cove to cove. Look before committing yourself, particularly with children, and take shoes that can cope with hot, uneven rock.

Around 8 minutes by car

Sardunya Bay

Sardunya Bay is just east of Karşıyaka. The sand, loungers and restaurant and bar make it a more settled beach day than one of the small coves, yet it is only a very short drive from the villa.

Families can split their time here: some stay by the water while others walk along the seafront, then everyone meets for lunch.

Around 14 minutes by car

Horseshoe Beach

Horseshoe Bay lies farther west along the Karşıyaka / Kayalar shore, tucked into a quiet cove with clear water and its own beach. You can go down for a swim and stay for lunch at the onsite restaurant, or arrive later for dinner and cocktails as the sun drops. The menu ranges from Antakya meze and grilled fish to pizza and burgers, so it is an easy place for a mixed group.

You can spend an afternoon or evening beside the sea without leaving the Karşıyaka area. Beach service and opening arrangements can change.

East through Lapta

Lapta is not centred on a single beach. Its long coastal side moves between sandy bays, rock shelves, swimming decks, restaurant terraces and the seafront walkway. That variety is part of its appeal: you can walk, swim and eat without driving into Kyrenia, and the supermarkets, cafés and restaurants along the main road are close at hand.

The coastline is easy to revisit in different ways during a stay. Just bear in mind that seasonal venues sometimes change name, operator or admission arrangements.

Swimming coast between Karşıyaka and Lapta

Around 8 minutes by car

Lapta Coastal Walkway

The walkway follows the sea for an easy change of scene only eight minutes from the villa. It is especially pleasant early in the morning or towards sunset, when the heat has eased and the light is softer. Sardunya Bay sits alongside it, while cafés and restaurants around the route give you somewhere to stop rather than simply turning round and driving home.

Ammadi Beach Club

Ammadi is an independent beach club, restaurant and bar in Lapta. Eziç Lapta is a convenient nearby landmark, but the two are separate businesses. Compared with the coves below Karşıyaka, Ammadi is somewhere to arrive, take a place by the water and remain for lunch rather than just stopping for a quick dip.

Check admission and whether a reservation is needed on Ammadi’s current venue page.

Silver Rocks

Silver Rocks is not a sandy beach. It is a long-established restaurant and bar set down at water level, with swimming from the rocky shore and access to a pool. The outlook and direct contact with the sea give it quite a different feel from Sardunya Bay or Camelot.

Go for a swim and stay over lunch, or arrive later for seafood, meat dishes, salads and drinks as the light changes across the water. Check Silver Rocks’ current information.

Suna’s Beach Club

Suna’s is a private beach club and restaurant on the Lapta side. Sunbathing areas sit above clear water, with swimming from the deck and jetty rand a small sandy beach. The restaurant and bar mean there is no need to leave at lunchtime, and water sports also operate during the season.

Alsancak and Kervansaray

Beyond Lapta, the coast around Alsancak and Five Mile becomes busier and more formal. Escape is large and lively; Camelot sits in a sheltered bay; Mare Monte is municipal; Denizkızı belongs to a hotel; and Kervansaray is a public cove nearer Kyrenia. They may look close together on a map, but they offer quite different days by the sea.

Come this way when sand, gentler entry into the water and proper changing facilities matter. It is also the easier part of the coast for a group that wants to unpack once, find lunch and stay until late afternoon. Check charges and reservations before travel.

Around 19 minutes by car

Escape Beach / Five Mile

Escape is one of the largest and best-known beach clubs west of Kyrenia. A gently shelving sandy shore is backed by lawns and decks, with a floating pier beyond. Loungers, umbrellas, toilets, showers and changing rooms are joined by restaurants, cafés, bars and seasonal water sports.

It is a full day out rather than a quiet local swim, and in high summer it can be lively. Check day-pass prices, events and opening details on Escape’s current venue page.

Camelot Beach Club

Camelot occupies a small horseshoe-shaped sandy bay protected by breakwaters. The water is generally calmer and the shore shelves gently, which is reassuring with younger children. A wooden deck, loungers, umbrellas and shaded cabins give you alternatives to sitting directly on the sand.

There is also a restaurant, beach bar, snack bar and seasonal water sports. An entrance charge normally applies; check Camelot’s current venue page for opening and admission details.

Mare Monte Beach

Mare Monte is Alsancak’s municipal public beach, taking its name from the former hotel that once stood here. The sandy bay has a gentle entry and generally calmer water, with sunbeds, umbrellas, changing rooms, toilets and freshwater showers available in season. A lifeguard and water-activity point have also operated during opening hours.

Entry has been free, with loungers charged separately, although this should be checked locally. Mare Monte offers sand and basic facilities without committing to a private beach club or paying for hotel day access.

Denizkızı Beach

Denizkızı belongs to the hotel above it, but non-residents can buy day access. The horseshoe-shaped cove has sand and a gently shelving shore, with a self-service beach restaurant and bar overlooking the water. The hotel also operates a PADI diving centre.

The hotel states that admission includes loungers, umbrellas, parking, showers and changing rooms. Check Denizkızı’s current beach information before travelling.

Around 22 minutes by car

Kervansaray Public Beach

Kervansaray occupies a compact cove in Karaoğlanoğlu, on the western approach to Kyrenia. It is a public beach and cafe with a few restaurants in ts proximity, and buoys separate the swimming area from boat traffic. Summer weekends can be busy, so arrive earlier if parking and finding space matter. Because of its position, it also pairs naturally with a later visit to central Kyrenia.

Beyond Karşıyaka

The change begins soon after leaving Karşıyaka. Houses and businesses become less frequent, the road feels more exposed and the sea appears unexpectedly between dry hills and bends. This is not a procession of named beaches; it is a stretch to explore slowly.

Kayalar coast — around 20 minutes: look for small coves, rocky places to enter the water and sudden views across the Mediterranean. A late-afternoon drive can include a swim or lunch, but there is no need to turn every bend into a stop.

Sadrazamköy coast — around 30 minutes: continue beyond Kayalar and the road becomes quieter again. The open views and sparsely developed shoreline give this part of the trip a real sense of distance from Kyrenia, even though it remains manageable from the villa.

Facilities are thinner on the ground. Take water, leave enough daylight for the smaller roads and check restaurant opening, road conditions and safe access to the sea locally.

Where to go for the day you want

Distance is only part of the decision. Eight minutes to a rocky cove and nineteen minutes to a gently shelving sandy beach are not interchangeable, especially with young children or anyone who finds uneven entry difficult.

A quick local swim

Keep close to the villa at Vasilia/Güzelyalı, Horseshoe or one of the Karşıyaka coves. Go early or later in the afternoon and there is still plenty of time for the pool.

Sand, loungers and lunch

Vasilia/Güzelyalı and Sardunya Bay are the nearest straightforward choices when their seasonal facilities are operating. Neither requires a full-day commitment.

A swim followed by a meal

Lido, Horseshoe and Silver Rocks all put food beside the water. The swimming is generally rockier than at the sandy bays around Alsancak.

A full beach-club day

Ammadi, Suna’s, Escape and Camelot are places to settle in for several hours. Check admission, reservations and any event programme before leaving the villa.

A sheltered sandy bay

Camelot, Mare Monte and Denizkızı all have gently shelving sand. The difference is access: private beach club, municipal public beach and hotel day pass.

A walk or a quieter drive

Choose the Lapta Coastal Walkway when you want time beside the sea without sitting on a lounger. Drive towards Kayalar and Sadrazamköy when you want open views and a less developed shoreline.

Close enough to come and go

The beach does not have to be the whole day

With several swimming places about eight minutes away, you can go to the sea while it is cooler, return to Villa Zeytin for lunch and spend the afternoon around your own pool. On another day, stay out for the loungers, a long meal or the drive beyond Karşıyaka. You are not tied to the routine of a large resort.

A few things worth knowing

Check before relying on a venue

Beach businesses can change their name, operator, charges, admission policy or opening days. This matters most outside high season and when a restaurant or particular facility is essential to the day.

The shoreline changes quickly

Sand can give way to pebbles, rock shelves and informal entry points within a short distance. If anyone needs an easy route into the water, choose a known sandy bay rather than assuming an attractive cove will be suitable.

Treat the sun seriously

Take water, shade and high-protection sun cream. Midday summer heat can make an exposed beach uncomfortable, particularly for young children.

Look at the water first

Many local places have no lifeguard. Check wind, waves, currents, boat traffic, entry and underwater footing, and never assume yesterday’s conditions will be the same today.

Vasilia/Güzelyalı, Sardunya Bay, Horseshoe, Lido, Silver Rocks, Ammadi, Suna’s, Escape, Camelot and Denizkızı all combine the coast with somewhere to eat or drink when operating. Check current hours before setting out.

Yes. The closest swimming places are near enough for a morning or late-afternoon outing, leaving the rest of the day for lunch, the garden and the private pool at Villa Zeytin.

At Villa Zeytin, the nearest beaches and the Lapta Coastal Walkway are only a short drive away, yet you return to a private pool, garden and the space of a three-bedroom villa.
